Get Involved & Help Build the Workforce You Need

Collaboration with employers in Northern LA County is key to developing & maintaining quality workforce readiness programs at the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). There are numerous ways businesses can engage with us to keep the Northern LA County economy resilient.

Business and Industry Leadership Teams

We want to put businesses in a co-leadership role, so you have direct input in developing program curricula that deliver workforce-ready employees. We plan to achieve this through Business and Industry Leadership Teams (BILTs).

College of the Canyons is in the process of establishing multiple BILTs to identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are critical for employment. Industry leaders will collaborate with educational institutions, workforce development agencies, and other community organizations to address essential workforce issues and help build a pipeline of highly skilled employees.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a win-win for students and employers. They can reduce recruitment and turnover costs for businesses while teaching students the in-demand skills needed for high-tech industries. Apprentices are full-time employees, paid by the employer, and receive on-the-job training. In addition, apprentices also take classroom related supplemental instruction during the apprenticeship. Working with employers to develop apprenticeship programs for ATC pathways is a priority for College of the Canyons.

Internships

Internships offer students the opportunity to apply their skills while still in college, gain on-the-job experience and “try out” a career before completing a program. The goal is to prepare students for the real world of work and expose students to new career fields.

Corporate Training

Our Employee Training Institute (ETI) works with businesses to provide low-cost subsidized training programs tailored to develop employees in critical workplace skill sets. Upon completing these various programs, companies can expect to see increases in employee skills, reduction in rework, and enhanced productivity. Our team will help your business access state and federal funding sources to offset your costs so you can remain competitive.
